As already mentioned, in double consonants, we are preparing and holding to pronounce the next consonant.
In cases the next consonant is explosive such as “t” and “k”, silent pauses appear before the explosions, however in “zasshi” we can hear the lasting fricative sound because we are preparing to pronounce the next fricative consonant “sh”.
